Sailing Overview
Casual Sailing
The club is open for members to sail 365 days a year during daylight hours.
There should be an assigned Duty Officer at the club at weekends from 10am to 4pm from March through October who may be able to provide assistance if needed.
The Chichester Cruise is an annual event where members take dinghies to Chichester harbour. Launching at Itchenor they sail in a group to provide mutual support to East Head for lunch. Then on to Hailing Island sailing club before returning to Itchenor in the late afternoon. The date of this event is shoseb to work with the tides and so varies from year to year.
Club Racing

Formal racing takes place with assigned race officers and safety cover as follows:
Sundays throughout the year with a pursuit race at 10:00 & handicap race at approx 11:45, split into the following 4 series:
- Winter Series runs from December through February
- Spring Series from March through May
- Summer Series from June through August
- Autumn Series from September through November
Wednesday evenings with a series from May through August usually with a 19:00 start time.
Informal races are also run on Wednesday afternoons at 16:00 in April and September and 17:00 from May through August and Wednesday mornings at 11:00 during the rest of the year i.e. September through April.
No race officer or safety boat cover is assigned for these informal races and participants must arrange adequate safety cover amongst themselves.
Open Meetings and Regattas
There are also a few Saturdays/Sundays when Broadwater holds special events such as a club regatta or an open meeting for the national or area association of a particular dinghy class, On a Sundays these events replace club racing.

Solo & Enterprise Open (Joint) - Saturday 25th March
Spring Handicap Open - Sunday 16 the April 2022
Laser Super Cup - Saturday 29 April 2022
Junior Sailing “Chocolate” Regatta - Saturday 30th September
Phantom Open - Saturday 7th October.
Nelson Day Regatta - Sunday 12 November
Other Information
Dinghies will compete against each other using the Portsmouth Handicap system, adjusted as appropriate in accordance with RYA guidance.
Several local clubs close during the winter months and we would very much like to welcome visitors from these or indeed any club to participate in our Winter Series which is open to any class of monohull dinghy up to about 16ft LOA. This is subject to the limits on total club membership and space in the dinghy park.
Winter visitors may be able to leave their boats in our dinghy park for the duration of the series. Please contact the membership secretary for details.
