Junior Sailing Information
For more information on any aspect of Junior Sailing please contact Tim Davies or email him via secretary@broadwatersc.org.uk and see the Club Calendar for dates of specific events.
Junior Sailing Session
A typical Saturday afternoon Junior Sailing Session, when there is nothing specific scheduled, is a fairly relaxed affair with the emphasis on getting enjoyment out of sailing and being safe on the water.
There will always be an experienced club member there to give advice whenever needed, and to keep an eye out for anyone who might need assistance.
We usually split into 2 or 3 fleets depending on experience and weather conditions. A variety of activities may be organised, such as a rigging practice, paddling races, collect the balls games, sailing with spinnakers, informal racing and towards the end of sessions, on warmer days, capsize practice.
Buoyancy aids and suitable clothing must be worn and an adult who will be responsible for those juniors taking part must be present at all times.
Sailing Kit
Broadwater SC is able to offer second-hand wetsuits, shoes and buoyancy aids in various sizes on a “borrow and return" basis. When you have outgrown the item, please return it in a clean and usable condition.
You will find the “Borrow and Return" kit hanging at one end of the portable building (key is hanging in the Ladies changing room)
Please be careful not to take any items belonging to a member using the portable building's changing room!
All of the kit has been donated by members, and the club cannot accept liability for any injury or damage caused by its use.
Fun Days
Are you aged 6 to 16 and either a Junior Sailing Club member or your parents or grand-parents are club members? If you are, why not come along to Junior Sailing Fun Days. It doesn’t matter whether you have never sailed before or whether you are a competent sailor. It doesn’t matter whether you are adventurous or cautious. We will match the activities to suit your level of skill.
Fun Days are all about enjoying yourself on the water in a sailing boat. You will take part in a variety of sailing and water-based activities, both competitive and non-competitive. The emphasis is on fun, but we guarantee that you will improve your skills as the week progresses. You will make new friends and renew old friendships.
Fun Days are usually held the first week of school summer holidays Wednesday through Saturday. Please see Calendar for dates. It’s great if you can do all 4 days, but if you can only make some of the days, that's OK, just let us know. Old ‘Fun-Weekers’ are warmly welcomed as helpers.
Junior Racing - Start Racing Training or ‘Go Faster Week’
The Start Racing Course or ‘Go Faster Week’ is open to all club members, and we would particularly encourage Junior sailors to join the course to improve their racing and general sailing. Please see the Calendar or contact Tim Davies for more info.
Juniors can race in any adult race in any series, on Sunday or Wednesday evenings. There is a best Junior prize at all the Regattas and a trophy for the overall best Junior in the combined Summer Sunday Pursuit and Handicap series.
