The Future for Broadwater Sailing Club at Broadwater Lake

Planning Application 2382/APP/2023/2906 (revised November 2025) to build the Hillingdon Water Sports Facility and Activity Centre (HWSF&AC) at Broadwater Lake was unanimously approved by the London Borough of Hillingdon (LBH) Planning Committee Meeting held on Tuesday 21 st April 2026.
The LBH Capital Programme Works Service are now progressing purchase of Broadwater Lake from the current owners Tarmac.
On completion of the lake purchase, LBH will provide Broadwater Sailing Club with a license agreement to continue to operate from its current location on the north shore of Broadwater Lake until the new HWSF&AC is completed. The construction of the new facility is expected to take 2 to 3 years depending on when work can start. LBH will then provide Broadwater Sailing Club with a long term lease agreement to operate from the new facility along with the Hillingdon Outdoor Activity Centre (HOAC) or another service provider. Broadwater Sailing Club will then vacate its current location and move to the new HWSF&AC.
The Broadwater Sailing Club Trustees and Main Committee will continue to work with the London Borough of Hillingdon Capital Programme Works Service Project Team and with HOAC on finalising the new facility design, fitout and Operational Management Plan.

There were 41 entries covering most of the racing fleet.
The technical knowledge varied widely and hopefully will be a little better after seeing the answers.
The hardest questions were the members’ pictures. Few spotted me!
The tie breaker wasn’t needed as Andy Wheeler stormed in on the last afternoon scoring 38/40 to secure the Special Cuvée 007 Champagne, beating an impressive 35, from 2nd December.
The participation prizes of wine, drawn at random by the Race Committee go to Graham Thomas and Mike Herman.
The PDF answer sheet is here and If you entered, you’ll receive an email with your score.
See you on the water and have a great 2026.

Committee Boat Update October 2025

The committee boat is now equipped with a self-launch and recovery anchor windlass. This improvement means there is no longer any need to deploy the anchor manually, nor access the foredeck to carry out anchoring operations.
